A Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, or Rivian can die on Shoreline Drive with a CCS port and no way to add miles. Long Beach covers 50.672 square miles of harbor, canals, and beach grid, and an empty pack on the 710 is a different stall than a brick in a downtown garage. Charge Pro LA connects you with a licensed local operator for non-Tesla EV rescue when the car will not drive itself to a charger.

Empty CCS pack on the 710, the 405, or PCH

The I-710 Long Beach Freeway is the truck spine into the port. Merges are short. Shoulders vanish under overpasses. The I-405 cuts the west side toward the South Bay. Pacific Coast Highway threads Belmont Shore and toward Naples Island. A CCS car at zero on those routes sits in mixed traffic with nowhere to roll.

California Vehicle Code 21718 prohibits stopping on a freeway, with an exception for a disabled vehicle once help has been summoned. Make the call first. Keep hazards on. CVC 21809 is the move-over law for stopped emergency, tow, or Caltrans vehicles displaying flashing lights.

A dead EV left on a freeway right-of-way can be removed. CVC 22651(f) lets a peace officer take a vehicle stopped, parked, or left standing for more than four hours upon the right-of-way of a freeway that has full control of access and no crossings at grade, when the driver cannot move it under its own power. Four hours is the number in the statute.

Metro Freeway Service Patrol is free on designated Los Angeles County freeway beats. Dial 511 and say Motorist Aid. Hours on the Metro page are Monday through Friday, 6am to 7pm, and weekends, 10am to 6:30pm. Published help is flat tires, jump-starts, radiator refills and taped hoses, up to a gallon of fuel, and a tow to a designated safe location off the freeway. Mobile EV charging is not on that list. FSP can get you off the 710. A CCS pack still needs a charge after that.

Once a rescue operator is plugged in, a typical Level 2 rescue charge is 10 to 20 miles of range in 15 to 30 minutes of charging. That is plug time. The U.S. DOE Alternative Fuels Data Center describes AC Level 2 equipment from 2.9 to 19.2 kW. The operator quotes the work. Charge Pro LA sets no price and promises no arrival window. California’s Clean Air Vehicle HOV decal program ended at midnight on September 30, 2025. There is no solo HOV access on that basis in 2026.

Port stalls, the Queen Mary lot, and downtown garages

The Port of Long Beach is cranes, terminals, and shift change. Cars die on Harbor Scenic Drive, along Pico Avenue, and in the lots that serve the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific. Shoreline Drive is the postcard loop. It is also where people idle, hunt parking, and run climate control until the gauge gives up. The Pike, Shoreline Village, and the convention-center garages put the same stall into concrete: a CCS port, a dark dash, and a structure with tight turns for a rescue van.

Downtown Long Beach mixes older decks with newer ones. ACS 2019-2023 puts 79.6 percent of the city’s housing as built before 1980. Plenty of drivers charge at work or at a public stall because a bungalow never got a Level 2 run. The Census Bureau’s July 1, 2024 estimate puts Long Beach at 450,901 residents across 50.672 square miles of land. That is a tight waterfront, with CCS and J1772 cars in port lots, beach lots, and downtown structures.

If the car is in a garage, tell the operator the level, the stall color, and the nearest stair or exit. A mobile EV charging operator still has to reach the port, clear a private lot, and match CCS or J1772 on the car in front of them. Some lots need a ticket, a gate code, or a manager on the radio. Have that ready.

Public DC fast stalls around the waterfront help when they work and when you can still roll. This page is for the stall that already happened. A charger count for Long Beach Airport could not be confirmed from a primary source for this site, so we are not publishing one. Confirm live stalls in your charging app. If the car will not move, the app will not finish the trip.

12V brick versus a true zero pack on non-Tesla EVs

Non-Tesla EVs still run a 12-volt battery for computers, contactors, door latches, and the charge-port door. When that small battery dies, the traction pack can hold plenty of energy while the car sits dark. Screens stay black. The port door may stay shut. Ready mode never comes. That is a 12-volt brick.

A true zero pack is a range-to-empty stall. The car drove until the gauge hit zero, often after air conditioning, a crawl on the 710, or a missed turn hunting a stall. The 12-volt system may still wake. The high-voltage pack will not send you across town.

Overnight in a downtown garage is a common 12-volt brick. Accessory loads, a loosely seated 12-volt, and a car that sat for days after a Queen Mary visit all show up the same way in the morning. You tap the fob and nothing answers. That still may be a pack with range left.

Tell the operator which one you think you have. A brick may need a 12-volt wake before any CCS cable will talk to the car. A zero pack needs energy into the inlet. If you are not sure, say so. Describe what the dash did in the last mile. Note whether lights, locks, and the phone app still answer.

Leave the port door alone if it will not pop. Wait for the operator who is coming to that stall. Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Rivian, Chevy, Volkswagen, and Polestar each hide the 12-volt in a different well. The matched operator brings the right leads. Charge Pro LA does not jump the car and does not own the truck.

Rivian, Hyundai, Kia, and Ford plugs on site

Most non-Tesla EVs on Long Beach streets use CCS for DC and J1772 for AC. That list includes the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, the Kia EV6 and EV9, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the F-150 Lightning, many Chevy and Volkswagen models, and Rivian trucks and SUVs that take CCS. The U.S. Department of Energy keeps a plain electric vehicle overview on plugs and charging levels. The California Energy Commission tracks zero-emission vehicles and charging at energy.ca.gov.

An operator doing non-Tesla EV rescue in Los Angeles County has to match the inlet on your bumper. Say the make and the model in the first sentence. Say CCS or J1772 if you know it. A Lightning at a terminal gate and a Kia in a 2nd Street garage share a plug family and almost nothing else about access.

Where you charge a non-Tesla EV in Long Beach is any live J1772 or CCS stall your car accepts, plus a home or workplace Level 2 if you have one. We are not publishing a nearest-stall distance. Open your charging app, read the live status, and if the car cannot roll, ask for a mobile fill instead of a scavenger hunt.

Rivian drivers in this city have a separate Long Beach Highway Assist article on this site. This page is the CCS waterfront stall for the rest of the lot, Rivian included when a local operator is the one plugging in. Coverage language from Rivian, Hyundai, Kia, or Ford roadside programs could not be verified from those makers’ pages for this site, so we are not reciting a brand dispatch promise. Call the manufacturer if you want their channel. Call us when you want a local operator who bills you directly.

Adapters and network rules change. Confirm the inlet on your car. Confirm what the operator is bringing. The job is a live plug on Shoreline Drive.

Calling a local operator through Charge Pro LA

Charge Pro LA is a referral service. We match you with a licensed, independent local EV rescue operator. We do not own the truck, hold a trade license, or set the invoice. You contract with the operator. You pay the operator. They quote the work for that stall.

Have this ready when you call. Make, model, and year. CCS or J1772. Whether you think it is a 12-volt brick or a zero pack. Exact pin: I-710 near which exit, I-405 near which exit, PCH at which cross street, Shoreline Drive by the aquarium, the Queen Mary lot, or a named downtown garage and level. Gate codes. Whether the car is blocking a travel lane.

GEICO Emergency Road Service is optional coverage. In most states, towing is covered up to 15 miles to the nearest qualified repair facility where repairs can be made. The GEICO Emergency Road Service page does not name electric vehicles or mobile EV charging anywhere in its covered-services list. Wording from other insurers and from AAA was not confirmed for this post. Read your own card before you assume a CCS fill is in it.

Southern California Edison delivers power across most of Los Angeles County outside municipal-utility cities. That does not change a dead car in a Queen Mary lot. The operator still brings the charger.
